On the Mend

Emerick has his second cold. It's true, He has only been sick 2 times in his life, with nothing more than a low fever and snotty nose. He is such a trooper though. He seems to be feeling better today, just in time for the lovely weather we are expecting this weekend!

words

At Emerick's 18 month Dr. visit, the Dr. commented that Emerick is very advanced. He is speaking many more words than expected (especially for a first child who is a boy). I know all parents are proud and think their child is advanced, but I am VERY proud of him for being so great at communication. His Dr. said that he should have 5-10 words at 18 months, pronunciation not being of importance as long as he uses the same word for any specific thing, and that we understand it.

I have been meaning to write down all of Emerick's words for a while now, so that I have it documented.

I may have missed a few, please comment if you think of any that I missed!

He says "cheese!"

When I photograph other people's kids I never ask them to say "cheese!" It almost always results in - well, a cheesy fake smile! Instead I will try to get them to laugh by making weird noises making a fool out of myself, or tickling them or something. Often I will tell them that I don't like smiles and that I want them to make the meanest face they can, or be really serious. That almost always does the trick. They think it is really funny and they laugh, and give natural smiles while trying to be mean or serious.

Emerick is different. Nothing works when I try to take his photo. He gets a blank stare, and looks away from the camera or just runs away. A couple of weeks ago when I decided to try and get some happy photos of him for his 18 month birthday, I became desperate. I made a cheesy smile and asked him to say "cheese!" He copied me, and I got tons of fake cheesy smiles while he was looking at the camera, but he didn't actually say "cheese" until several days later, when I had my camera in front of my face just taking some snapshots of him playing. He looked over at me, gave me a big cheesy smile and started saying "cheese!!" over and over again while giggling. He now says "cheese!" every time he sees the camera!

I don't mind Emerick's fake cheesy smile one bit, I will take it!

adorable habit

{ 18 days old}

{18 months old}

Since the day Emerick was born he has had this adorable habit of crossing his feet. He does this all the time.

While he models...

While he eats...
While he sleeps...

While he waits to be seen by the Doctor...

While in the car...

While he reads...

While taking a bath...

While doing many other things too...
Actually it hasn't just been since he was born, he was spotted crossing his feet when he was just 16 weeks old in my womb!

A cheat sheet ;-)

Just one out of the billions of things I love about Emerick :-)

18 month stats

Today Emerick had his 18 month Dr. visit. His Dr. said that most babies his age are scared of him, and freak out when he touches them, but Emerick doesn't mind one bit! He is so friendly, and just loves everybody. He is such a trooper, he just sits still while he is poked and prodded, not to mention he has never cried once when getting a shot! Such a tough guy!

Newest words:
Uh Oh! (He says Doot Doot!)
Light (He says A Yigh!)
Mack (from the movie Cars, he says "Maaa!"
Ellen (my parent's dog)

He can also identify Mack, Sheriff, and The Hudson Hornet. He will pick up, or go find in his bucket of cars and trucks the one you ask for! You will rarely see Emerick without Sheriff and Hudson Hornet in his hands! They are his fave. Love it.

Here are his stats...

Height: 33 1/2 inches - 75%
Weight: 29.4 lbs - 90%
Head circum: 51cm - 100%!!!!

As much as a Dr. can predict something like this at just 18 months, he says Emerick should be at least his Dad's height at 6ft. :-) Daddy wouldn't mind if he gets some added height from his Pa Pa who is 6ft4in!!

Happy Easter!

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter with your loved ones. I didn't take many photos today, actually only a couple quick snaps of my little dude :-) I will have to gather the photos from everyone else who took more than I did!
The easter bunny left this for Emerick!

and here is Emerick one year ago, sitting in the same spot on the floor...
